Today is the BIG day… the day I DRIVE to Big Bay, MI for Emily & TJ’s wedding on Saturday! I’m so excited to get to go to the Upper Peninsula again. This will be my first time to do so in the summer.
In March of 2009, we were able to do the trip I’ve been dying to do ever since I read about it in an in flight magazine. Big Bay, Michigan on the southern shore of Lake Superior!!! I can now say I’ve seen all the great lakes. This was an amazing trip. Josh’s parents braved the weather with us – I should say Bill braved the weather since he is like my dad and takes medicine that effects his ability to stay warm. He wore a coverall suit! We even experienced a “blizzard.” We were on an adventure to hike to ice caves only to find that the road ended in snow higher than the car! The blizzard hit and all you could see was white. We decided to make the best out of it and have a photo shoot. 🙂 We stayed at the Big Bay Lighthouse Bed & Breakfast right on the cliffs of Lake Superior. We had tower access to watch the stars at night and sunrise over the frozen lake. For such a small town in the winter there sure was a lot to explore. Josh & Bill went ice fishing while Carol and I went bar hopping. ha ha ha. They only had bar restaurants in the town so we went from place to place sampling the soups, hot chocolate, and homemade desserts. We were able to snow shoe along the lake right from the B&B. We even were daring enough to go on the trails with snowmobiles. This day unfortunately ended in tears. Hopefully now that it’s almost a year ago maybe we can look back and laugh? We all wrecked several times. Josh and I hit a tree and ended up paying damages. We lost each other at the beginning of the day and Carol & Bill flipped on railroad tracks with a slow moving train coming. It was a crazy day. On a good note Carol and I had the best massages EVER at the lighthouse. Such a treat! I’m doing this again this trip…
So off I go…. this time my mom is flying into Marquette and enjoying the weekend with me. We have definate plans to do water activities on the Lake. Don’t worry… I’ll take pictures! 🙂
