Ellie made a beautiful bride yesterday! We were all so nervous about the wedding as the day approached. I received a voice message from Ellie last week of the news Kyle (THE GROOM) was in a motorcyle accident and in the hospital with broken ribs! I had to go into research mode almost immediately for what shots we could possibly get to make her day special if Kyle was in a wheelchair! Ellie appeared very calm the morning of… even though she told me the rehearsal dinner seemed to be a little too much for Kyle. It takes a strong women to keep her cool when her love is in so much pain and everything is moving fast paced around her. Ellie really had it together and this was one of my most relaxed weddings I’ve captured! Kudos to Ellie and all of her friends & family for their support and Kyle for pulling through so much activity so soon after injuries!!! As a treat to the newlyweds… this will most likely be the longest wedding blog I’ve done to date! So sit back, and enjoy the photos!
These preparation photos turned out so well because of the lighting in this room. Normally lighting is the last thing that a bride thinks about and something I arrive early to investigate… but Ellie had already pre-chosen this room before I arrived for just those reasons. Great lighting allows me to shoot without the use of a flash and capture details that go flat with a flash.
I have never shot a wedding that was rained out all day! I’ve always been able to capture great natural shots outside even if it rains on/off. Today came pretty close to me breaking that good streak!! Fortuneatly we had this great covered porch while it was raining in the morning. Here is a cute picture of the ladies with their umbrellas to document our morning! I can’t forget the shoe shot either!! For my future brides/bridesmaids…. I take this shot so dress your feet cute too!!! Ellie had hot pink accents so all of her ladies had hot pink toes too!!
Ellie belongs in a Bride’s magazine with these cute poses!
Stunning!
The ring pillow was made from Ellie’s mom’s wedding dress. What a great idea!
Still raining… moments before the ceremony, bridesmaids help Ellie into the church.
Gorgeous cathedral!
ahhh…. the KISS! Sometimes it’s a bit tricky for me to catch this in Catholic weddings because I wasn’t raised Catholic. I’m used to the kiss being prounouced at the end so I always have to be up front towards the middle of Catholic ceremonies listening for what part in the program we are in to catch it!! I think I’ve finally gotten it down!
This has been my first full wedding season to set up tripods/umbrellas to light up venues. These are more tradtional shots but I love ’em!
A dreamy sillohette shot in the cathedral’s archway…
I’ve been using off camera lighting dramatically for one or two poses to give more variety for my couples! I found this great staircase and highlighted the detailing of the rails, textured walls, and a couple closely cuddled at the bottom in a sweet embrace! This is more of an epic shot that is meant for an art print. This means you are not necessarily supposed to see the details of the couple but look at the entire photo objectionably as a story or art. This makes a great large canvas print. Epic art prints are interesting to look at on the wall without the feeling of a traditional portrait that needs to be updated throughout the years. These become timeless pieces that just so happen to include YOU! I hope you both love this as much as I do! Kyle, thanks for being willing to move up/down the stairs!!
A sweet portrait of Ellie and Kyle outside the church with Ellie resting on Kyle…. creative wheelchair shot. 🙂
You’ve got to make the most of the situation… and we sure had fun with it!!! No… honestly Kyle was standing in the ceremony and for the majority of the shots! So proud of you Kyle! You’d never know if we didn’t take these shots that you were in so much pain!!
Loved the porch we had in the morning, so we had to go re-visit with the entire wedding party. It was only across the street from the Cathedral!
Another favorite….
The handsome gentlemen!
Kyle designed Ellie’s ring! So unique and gorgeous! I loved the two-toned jewels!
Beautiful!
So this next shot has a story behind it and it’s pretty funny… hope your doctor isn’t reading Kyle! For anyone who has ever had to take pain meds you know at the end of the 4 hours just before your next dose is THE worst. Well, that moment was just after the ceremony when we were taking portraits and ALWAYS when the guys are thinking about reception food and NOT taking more pictures. 🙂 Poor Kyle!! The wedding party opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate… so of course Kyle had to take a glass to swallow down his pills!! ha ha ha.
Kyle & Ellie made the grand entrance into the reception with Kyle carting Ellie! Friends even helped decorate his wheel chair with traditional cans and Just Married sign and well wishes! Ellie, I know what seemed like an unfortuneate event… really made your wedding UNFORGETABLE!
For all weddings, guests have event cards with the link to view all of the wedding photos. These are business card size that can be customized like we did for Kyle & Ellie. A local Colorado photographer took this engagement shot of them (love it!!). I custom design these for each couple and compliments of the bride and groom, each guest receives a code for a free 4×6 print through their gallery. Ellie and Kyle’s gallery can be found HERE.
Ellie & Kyle’s cupcakes were so vibrant!!! I can’t believe I forgot to eat one so I can’t tell you if they were as yummy as they looked!! I did help myself to my favorite treat… M&M’s!!
The toasts were great! Ellie’s father commented on how Ellie was a woman of grace for taking Kyle, “for worse” so early in their marriage! Christine, sister of the bride & MOH, spoke of their childhood of Ellie wanting her to play Barbies and her begging to play soccer. Best man – Akshayan told about college days with Kyle taking him under his wing to show him English wasn’t the same as “American.” Too funny.
Ellie & her family saved flower pedals from their grandmother’s funeral and put the pedals mixed with one’s the bride had been given throughout the couples relationship. Very touching. The framed message on the memory table read, “The rose petals scattered on this table are from the funeral of Ellie’s grandmother, Edna Kreinbrink, and from the roses Kyle has given Ellie throughout their relationship. May there be many more to come.”
The reception crowd had some of the best dancing I’ve seen in awhile! Lots of fun!!! Kyle even made it out on the dance floor with Ellie! Congrats Kyle & Ellie!!! I hope you have fun in Hawaii!!!
