Wendy and I graduated from college together and moved to Ohio without really knowing exactly where we were going on the map. I know that’s awful. We both knew Ohio was mid west but not that Toledo was so up north… The night before our first day on the job I arrived in Toledo and met Wendy for the first time officially. We roomed together for the first three months in temporary housing while we looked for our own apartment and became familiar with the area. We were curious what attractions were local to us and happened upon the giant Longaberger basket. We decided we must go together one weekend to celebrate our arrival to the state of Ohio. Six years later… that weekend came! Here we are on Wendy’s 29th birthday at the Longaberger basket! We really lucked out on the day… beautiful weather and it just so happened to be the grand re-opening. Lots going on and we watched entry winners run a 30 second dash to fill their buggies with as many baskets as they could to take home. In the evening we stayed at Garden Gate Get-A-Way Bed & Breakfast in the heart of the world’s largest Amish community. What a treat!! Carol & Herb were the nicest Inn Keepers and surprised us with their nightly campfire! We also learned they could arrange for us to eat dinner with an Amish family. Our stay was short but we plan to come back in the next few weekends to do more and really see the Amish countryside. Hopefully this trip will really be in the next few weekends and not delayed another 6 years!
